Bujumbura Anglican Dioces
Founded in 1975 and formerly known successively as the Protestant Church of Burundi, the Episcopal Protestant Church of Burundi, and the Episcopal Church of Burundi, the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura is one of the nine dioceses—Bujumbura, Matana, Buye, Makamba, Gitega, Muyinga, Rumonge, Buhiga, and Rutana—that make up the Province of the Anglican Church of Burundi.
Currently, the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura covers the territories of Bujumbura (City and Rural), Muramvya, Bubanza, and Cibitoke. It is composed of seven archdeaconries, namely Rohero, Musaga, Ngagara, Muramvya, Bubanza, and Cibitoke an Nyakabiga, which together comprise twenty-four parishes.
The Diocesan Office of the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura, led by the Bishop and Legal Representative of the Diocese, is headquartered in the Rohero area, Mukaza Commune, City of Bujumbura. It is structured into departments and projects through which diocesan activities are implemented. Reports on these activities are submitted monthly to the Diocesan Secretariat. These reports, together with those from the archdeaconries, are presented to the Executive Committee at its quarterly meetings.
Indeed, the Executive Committee is one of the three governing and decision-making bodies of the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura, alongside the Diocesan Council and the Diocesan Synod.
