Pastoral and Evangelical Affairs Department

The Department of Evangelization of the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura has as its main mission to proclaim the Word of God and to contribute to the spiritual and moral transformation of communities. Its activities are carried out mainly in the parishes, with their active support, and also extend into various institutions within society.

The department regularly organizes evangelistic campaigns in all the parishes of the diocese in order to reach a large number of believers and non-believers. It also conducts training seminars on Christian values, as well as refresher sessions for pastors and catechists, with the aim of strengthening their pastoral and pedagogical capacities.

It provides teaching in baptism and confirmation classes, while encouraging new Christians to join the diocesan associative movements, particularly the Mothers’ Union. The department is also responsible for administering the sacraments and other ecclesiastical practices.

Evangelization is not limited to churches: the Word of God is taught in primary and secondary schools, in detention centers (prisons), as well as in public and private health institutions.

Furthermore, the department coordinates Theological Education by Extension (TEE) training across the archdeaconries. Nine pilot groups were formed, with preparation of materials, distribution of TEE books, evaluations, and follow-up. To date, the six archdeaconries already have thirteen active TEE groups.

Through all these actions, the Department of Evangelization gives thanks to God for the many lives transformed by the Word, both in the parishes and in schools, prisons, and surrounding health facilities.
