Closing of the Climate Resilience Project in Muramvya
On March 28, 2026, the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura, with the support of Tearfund, officially closed the Climate Resilience Project implemented in Muramvya Commune, Gitega Province.
Implemented over six years, the project reflects the Church’s holistic mission to promote the well-being of communities—spiritually, socially, and economically.
The project aimed to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities to climate change through an integrated approach combining:
- Sustainable agriculture
- Environmental protection
- Community-based financial inclusion
It was implemented across four hills:
Busimba, Burambana, Biganda, and Muramvya
Key Activities
- Promotion of agroecological practices
- Soil erosion control and land protection
- Support for priority crops and modern livestock farming
- Establishment of Savings and Credit Groups (Self-Help Groups)
The project led to:
- Adoption of improved agricultural practices
- Increased agricultural productivity
- Sustainable management of natural resources
- Improved household incomes
🌱 Concrete Achievements
- 120,000 agroforestry seedlings produced and planted
- 583 fruit trees (avocado trees) distributed
- 3,584 meters of contour lines developed
- 281 improved cookstoves installed

The project benefited 347 households, organized into 11 groups, strengthening:
- Community solidarity
- Economic empowerment, especially among women
- The closing event brought together beneficiaries, partners, and local authorities to:
- Present key results
- Share lessons learned
- Highlight community testimonies
- Strengthen collaboration
The testimonies clearly showed real and lasting impact: improved livelihoods, increased production, and stronger financial autonomy.
