The Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura is one of the nine dioceses that currently comprise the province of the Anglican Church of Burundi. It was established on October 26, 1975. Its first bishop was Bishop Samuel Sindamuka. From 1990 until March 2013, the diocese was led by Bishop Pie Ntukamazina. Since 2013, it has been led by Bishop Eraste Bigirimana. The diocese currently covers five of the country’s eighteen provinces: Bujumbura Mairie, Bujumbura, Bubanza, Cibitoke, and Muramvya. Its seat is in Bujumbura, the country’s economic capital.
The Diocese of Bujumbura currently comprises 24 parishes grouped into 6 archdeaconries: Rohero, Ngagara, Musaga, Bubanza, Cibitoke, and Muramvya, plus Holy Trinity Cathedral. The Diocese’s decision-making bodies include the Synod, the Diocesan Council, and the Executive Committee.
The Diocesan Executive Office has three departments, overseen by the Diocesan Secretariat. These departments are: the Department of Pastoral and Evangelical Affairs, the Department of Community Development, and the Department of Economic Affairs and Financial Empowerment.
